CONE 6 CERAMICS

Functionware

My passion is throwing. Working on the wheel is fast-paced, exhilarating and yet meditative. The focus it demands is mesmerising. The results it yields are sleek and accurate but retain the maker's mark - full of personality and life.
Before I began working with clay, I worked in the food industry for many years. I started making in clay so that I could make dishes for my food.
The vessels in which we cook and serve are what make our food possible.
My work is inspired both by the exploration of clay as a material and by the imagination and meaning that is imbued into the finished object. My focus is on the form, and it embraces the juxtaposition of the texture of the unglazed clay body as it meets up with the wonderful variations and light that glazes offer.

The tactility of the bowl is the key part of the design. The sharp edge of the inner bowl together with the outer ‘tire’ resulted in a sleek,
modernistic shape. Cast in terracotta or porcelain and finished on the wheel.
